You Need Good Headshots in LA

Good headshots are not cell phone headshot you cropped in from a party.

You care about your online presence and know those headshots are not professional. And trust us, everyone can tell.

There is a difference between good headshots vs bad headshots!

Good headshots should not be hard to capture. As a result, we try our best to make it as easy and effortless for you to get good headshots out of your session.

Good Headshot Examples

What makes a good headshot?

  1. Firstly, a professional headshot needs to have clean lighting. Not too bright or too dark. You don’t want unwanted shadows under your eyes, nose or chin. Therefore this require a professional headshot photographer who understands their lighting ratios. Likewise, what angles to position his lighting so that it gives you flattering light. As a result, this leads to you getting good headshots.
  2. Typically when you get free headshots, the individual does not necessarily know what they are doing. They assume just setting you out in direct sunlight will get you good headshots. However a good headshot requires the manipulation of light to remove shadows or fill in with shadows as needed.

Don’t Google “how to take good headshots with iphone”. These types of headshots don’t have the quality you need for printing or websites.

Nor do they make you stack up to your peers, who do have good headshots.

Examples Of Good Professional Headshots

If you need good headshots for LinkedIn, here are some easy steps to follow.

  1. Hire a professional headshot photographer who can shoot your LinkedIn headshots in their photo studio. This will provide the greatest control in lighting, as opposed to shooting outside.
  2. Good headshot backgrounds for LinkedIn are typically on a white, gray or black seamless paper. Since you want your face to stand out on LinkedIn we advise you stay away from busy backgrounds. For example, nothing with busy shapes, patterns or objects should be in the background. Keep it clean and let your face do the talking.

How To Take A Good Headshot For Business

Good outfits for headshots can be a challenge to many. Should you wear a dress? A suit and tie? Jeans and a t-shirt? So many choices! So how does one decide?

You want to know how to look good in a professional headshot?

Follow these 3 steps:

  1. People have a tendency to retract their neck when getting their actor headshots or corporate headshots taken. As a result, you end up getting a double chin; which no one wants! Remember to slightly stick your chin forward. This pulls the skin around your jaw and helps reduce the appearance of a double chin.
  2. You can look away! After we take 3-4 shots of you smiling, we have you look away from the camera and re-fresh your smile. That means loosening up your jaw, making a “brrr” sound with your lips or shaking your head a bit. You don’t want to be holding your smile for 20, 30, or 40 photos. This will create a creepy joker like smile. That is to say the smile will look fake and un inviting. As crazy as it sounds, we usually have clients laugh to themselves a bit as they are smiling. This makes the smile look much more authentic than you just holding a smile in place.
  3. Stick to simple clothing items. We think solid colors that compliment your skin and eye color work best. Stay away from clothing pieces that have logos or distracting patterns. You want the focus to be on your face, not the clothes. We also suggest to stay away from whites, as this can cause you to be washed out.

If you do decide to wear clothing with patterns or graphics, it is wise to add a layering piece on top of it. This can include a blazer or cardigan. That way you still get to wear your pattern piece but it’s not the center of attention.

Keep in mind that if you decide to shoot creative portraits, we can bend the rules a bit.

That’s because creative portraits don’t have to be as rule following as they would be for LinkedIn. In other words, it all depends on what the end use of the headshots is for.
